Summit Report, Gangtok 18 Mar:
MP Lok Sabha, Dr Indra Hang Subba has put forth a proposal to organize a largescale Artificial Intelligence (AI) event in Sikkim. This initiative aims to highlight Northeast India’s potential in the AI-driven future and advocate for its active inclusion in India’s AI policy, an official press release explains.
Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, to whom the proposal was submitted, has responded positively to the idea, acknowledging the strategic significance of such an event in fostering innovation, skill development, and economic growth in the region, the release adds.
The Minister has assured further discussions and collaborations to assess the feasibility of hosting the event, in line with the government’s vision of inclusive technological advancement.
Welcoming the encouraging response, Dr Subba stated, “Northeast India has immense talent and potential to contribute to India’s AI landscape. A dedicated AI platform in the region will empower youth, entrepreneurs, and researchers, ensuring their active participation in the country’s digital transformation.”
The proposal is centred on enhancing human resource capability to meet the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. AI is set to revolutionize every sector, making it imperative to equip individuals with the skills to integrate AI effectively into daily operations. The focus must be on leveraging AI wisely to maximize its benefits while mitigating challenges, the MP believes. He adds, “Sikkim has the potential to play a pivotal role in shaping India’s AI revolution. With one of the highest literacy rates in the country, the state is well-positioned to embrace AI and provide its youth with the necessary training to become part of India’s future-ready workforce.”
