Three Futsal players from Sikkim - Boxer Pradhan, Sangay Chopel Bhutia and Ashwin Rai - who were part of the Under-21 Team India is back to the capital after representing the country at the Its AMF Futsal under 20 championship, Valledupar, Columbia from Nov 18 to 26, held in Colombia.
Sikkim's Bishal Chettri was the coach for Team India.
They unanimously thanked all the sport-lovers and citizens for their prayers, best wishes and now the congratulations coming their way.
Futsal Association of Sikkim (FAS) with Remon Chettri as its president has been instrumental in bringing the boys together and hone their skills.
Coach Bishal Chettri, also part of the FAS, stated that within a year since FAS was formalised, it has come across impressive Futsal talent in the State.
"Seriousness at all levels is what is required now," he stressed.
Pointing out there was still no proper Futsal stadium in Sikkim, he shared that players were now feeling the desperate need for such facilities not just in Gangtok but in all the districts.
The team members also sought partial funding from state and centre to take the sport further in Sikkim.
The stressed that infrastructure was the primary requirement for the sport which will not only help in honing the talent of budding enthusiasts but also attract funding from private and corporate sectors.
While taking about their Colombia experience, they shared that this was their first exposure at an international tournament and informed that Futsal was "huge abroad".
Requesting the State Government for funds to create infrastructure and arrange other logistical support, the expressed hope that this will come about and help develop Sikkim as a national and international futsal tournament hosting region.
