Sikkim Democratic Front has condemned what it has branded ‘inflammatory statements’ made by one Samson Tamang on Facebook targeting the Chettri-Bahun community.
An SDF press release, issued by its vice-president MN Dahal, remarks that the FB post in question has deeply hurt the sentiments of the Chettri-Bahun community across Sikkim.
The release adds that SDF “fully supports” the FIR filed by the Akhil Sikkim Khas association.
The party has also appealed for calm, stating that since the matter is now under police investigation, people should remain calm and allow the law to take its course.
“We also call upon the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and take strict legal action against the individual responsible,” the release adds.
SDF has also pointed out that the accused in the case is closely associated with Sikkim Krantikari Morcha, hence the SKM government should take responsibility to address the issue more seriously.
