136-year-old tradition ofpeace prayers at Ramidham

Gangtok, 06 Jan: A two-day world peace puja concluded today at Ramidham Rabda Kamal Dham under

Rinchenpong constituency of West Sikkim. The puja today was attended by Sikkim Krantikari Morcha Area incharge Phurba Tshering Bhutia, SKM Area Youth Coordinator Sukhang Limbu, PHE Chairman,

Hari Narayan Subedi, ward Panchayat, public, Ramidham Rabda Kamal Dham committee members.

Devotees from various parts of the country as well as neighbouring countries used to attend the puja here until the COVID-19 pandemic happened. The puja is held twice a year and is a 136- year old tradition. According to local residents, the practice of world peace prayers started in 1885 wherein

various types of havans are performed. Devotees fast on the day of the puja, and the next day after the puja is over, they break the fast with “bhandara”. Ramidham is also a tourist destination and offers a beautiful view of sumtise.
