2 deaths and 40 new cases over the Dasain break in Sikkim

Gangtok, 18 Oct:

Sikkim lost two lives to Novel Coronavirus and 40 new cases in over the six days of the Dasain break from 13 to 18 Oct.

While a Covid patient passed away at STNM Hospital on 12 October [recorded in the Covid chart released of 13 October], the second fatality occurred on 14 October [recorded in the Covid chart for the next day]. Sikkim’s Covid death toll currently stands at 391.

A total of 1,049 tests were conducted in the six days giving an average test positivity rate of 3.81% for the holidays.

Meanwhile, as per the Daily Report of COVID-19 in Sikkim released by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of the Health Department, seven new cases were recorded in Sikkim in the last 24 hours taking the state’s tally of the confirmed cases to 31,756.

These 7 cases were picked up from the testing on 217 samples giving Sikkim a daily test positivity rate of 3.2% on Monday.

While five cases were registered in East District, two were in West District with South and North Sikkim recording no new cases from the 36 and 07 tests conducted there in the past 24 hours respectively.

While four cases were detected in RT-PCR testing of 99 samples, two were found in rapid antigen testing of 110 samples and one in Trunat testing of eight samples.

The number of active cases of Covid-19 have also slipped below the 200-mark in Sikkim and currently stand at 165. As per the IDSP report, 16 new recoveries were recorded in the past 24 hours. The state’s figure of recovered cases has now improved to 30,882 and the state recovery rate stands at 98.2%.

There are currently 29 Covid-positive patients admitted in hospital in Sikkim, of whom three are in ICU. Of the 29 in hospital, only two are under 18 years of age.

On the vaccination front, while the entire eligible population in the State has already received at least the first dose of the vaccine, a reassuring 81.63% of the adult population is now fully vaccinated.
