2 new cases, 2636 more vaccinated
Gangtok, 18 Mar: COVID vaccination continues in Sikkim with 2636 persons receiving COVID vaccine shots in different parts of the State on Wednesday. Of the 2636 people, 2271 received the first
dose of the vaccine and 365 completed their vaccination schedule with the second dose today.
In his daily health bulletin on Thursday, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam Gyaltsen
Bhutia informed that 118 healthcare workers [78 first dose & 40 second dose] and 476 frontline
workers [151 first dose & 325 second dose] were vaccinated on Wednesday in the State. Likewise, 420 persons in age group of 45 to 59 years with comorbidities and 1622 persons falling in the 60 years
and above category also received the first dose of their COVID vaccine, he added. Meanwhile, Sikkim
recorded only two new cases of novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours and with this the state’s
tally of confirmed cases of COVID-19 stands at 6196. These two cases were picked up from the testing
of 157 samples on Wednesday and both were found positive in RT-PCR testing [of 118 samples].
Mr Bhutia informed that one person from Melli Bazaar and another from NHPC quarter Dung Dung tested positive for COVID-19. On the other hand, the figure of recovered cases of COVID-19 in Sikkim is still at 5916 with no new recovery in the last 24 hours in the State. There are currently 48 active cases of novel coronavirus in the State. On Wednesday, three new cases were detected in the State in the testing
of 133 samples. Two persons from Ranipool in East District and one person from Melli Bazaar in South
District had tested. On the other hand, 2041 persons were provided the shield of COVID vaccines in the
State on Tuesday, of whom 1771 persons have received the first dose of the vaccine and 270 persons have completed their vaccine schedule with the second shot. While seeing further break-up of Vaccinations, 155 healthcare workers [119 first dose and 36 second dose], 294 frontline workers [164 first dose and 130 second dose], 105 persons [102 first dose and 03 second dose] in age group of
45 to 59 years and 411 persons in age group 60 years and above were vaccinated for COVID-19
in East District. In West District, 07 healthcare workers [5 first dose and 2 second dose], 102 frontline workers [3 first dose and 99 second dose], 149 in age group of 45 to 59 years and 502 persons in
age group 60 years and above, while 22 persons in age group of 45 to 59 years and 102 persons in
age group 60 years and above in North District were received their vaccine shots. Likewise, 01 healthcare workers, 08 frontline workers, 02 person in age group of 45 to 59 years and 181 persons in age group 60 years and above in South District were also vaccinated for COVID-19.
