Amrit Tamang, 17, scores his first international goal in Sweden

Sikkim’s youth are conquering the nation. Every reality competition these days has at least one contestant who hails from our state. Be it Passang Doma Lama, Apurva Tamang, Tshering Leizum Bhutia or the recent Mingma Lepcha who is competing in the TV Dance reality show Dance Plus. This time we have a 17-year old boy from Duga, East Sikkim making Sikkim proud. 

 

Amrit Tamang, born to Lawang Tamang and Sancha Maya Tamang from Duga recently represented India when his team Delhi Dynamos competed in Gothia Cup in Sweden which was held from 18 to 26 July 2016. Tamang was the left-winger of Delhi Dynamos at the tournament and has become the first Sikkimese footballer to compete in the prestigious Gothia Cup.He made a mark in the tournament as he managed to score his first international goal when Delhi Dynamos competed against Germany.  According to Tamang, 40 other footballers from across the country competed for the opportunity to play in the tournament and to represent India in the Gothia Cup. 

 

Furthermore Tamang thanked his coach, his parents, his well-wishers as well as the Pendam Football Academy where he first started off. He went on to express his gratitude to the State Government and the Chief Minister, Pawan Kumar Chamling.Tamang had previously participated in various tournaments like Subroto Cup, IFA Shield International Tournament before competing in Gothia Cup.  

 

Gothia Cup is an international youth football tournament, which has been held annually since 1975 in Gothenburg, Sweden. Considered the second biggest youth football tournament in the world, (after Norway Cup) competing youth teams throughout the world enter the competition.
