Sikkim Democratic Front has called for a public hearing to explain delays in the construction work at Bhaichung Stadium here. The hearing is scheduled for 08 June, Thursday, here at the stadium itself.
This project has dragged on for years now and a visit to the site offers no optimism since the dug up facility appears nowhere near completion. The project is as much an eyesore as it is a convenient point to criticize the government, and now, it appears, patience has worn very thin.
The call for a public hearing to discuss the delay and work out ways to expedite the project followed from a door-to-door campaign of Namchi-Singithang constituency led by area vice president, Gagan Rai, and chairperson (Tourism Board), RN Rai, today.
The team visited the construction site and inspected the ongoing construction works. The visit was also joined by District Collector (South), Raj Kumar Yadav and Additional Superintendent of Police (South), Linda Palmu Chettri.
Speaking about complaints of slack monitoring by the concerned authority, Mr Gagan Rai said, “Bhaichung Stadium is an important project for the state government. The state government has aimed to develop an important asset for Namchi through this stadium. The reason to call for a public hearing is to sort out this problem and come up with a solution.”
He further informed that the party has already informed the DC regarding the construction work complaints and that a meeting has been fixed with the Engineering Cell and Secretary of Sports & Youth Affairs Department on 08 June,
Mr Rai has appealed to the general public of Namchi to attend the public hearing and place their suggestions to ensure early completion of Bhaichung Stadium and help develop it as an asset for Namchi.
