Lachen boy called up for India U-23 preparatory camp

Goalkeeper of ShillongLajong FC, PhurbaTempaLachenpa, who hails from Sikkim, has been called for the India Under-23 preparatory camp. The selected players from this Camp will play in 2018 AFC Under-23 Championship qualifiers which will be held in Qatar next month.
“It a proud moment for me. I’ve put my hard work for days like these. It’s a result of constant hard work and support from many wonderful people around me. My family, my coaches and teachers who have always been beside me guiding and giving knowledge to do well in life,” said Phurba.
He further added that most of the credit for this India Under-23 Camp call goes to his coaches right from the Academy days to his current club,ShillongLajong FC.
19-year-old Phurba was born in Lachen and did his schooling from North Sikkim Academy after which he was selected to attend the Sports Academy of Sikkim in Gangtok. He also spent a few months in the famed Tata Football Academy [TFA]. The youngster then signed his first professional contract with ShillongLajong FC in 2015.
According to the All India Football Federation website, 34 players have been called for the preparatory camp to be held in New Delhi from 17 June under the watchful eyes of the Head Coach, Stephen Constantine.
