Save Dzongu Committee formed to address Teesta IV dispute

A new organisation 'Save Dzongu Committee' has been formed following a meeting between members of Affected Citizens of Teesta, Sikkim Lepcha Youth Association, Panchayats, Government Employees, monks and youth of Dzongu at Passingdang, North Sikkim on 13 Jun.
A press release from the Committee informs that the meeting was held to discuss the recent activities of those for and against NHPC’s Stage IV Teesta Hydro Electric Project.
The new organisation has been formed to deal with the HEP project issue in the context of press and media, dialogue with the concerned authorities, mobilizing awareness programs and legal channeling, the release mentions.
The Committee seeks to bring all the stakeholders together and deal with the Stage IV NHPC HEP in order to save the United Nation’s World Heritage Site, Kanchenjunga National Park, the culture and tradition and to protect the last free flowing stretch of Teesta, informs the release.
Ugen Lepcha has been appointed as the president of the newly formed association along with ACT members Sangdup Lepcha, Nalimit Lepcha, Lakden Lepcha, Kachyo Lepcha, Phur Tshering Lepcha, Mayalmit Lepcha as other active members of the association.
