NOW IT'S ICE-CREAM THAT IS IN SHORT SUPPLY IN LOCAL MARKETS
Gangtok, 17 Jul:
It’s that time of the year. Ice cream season! The weather’s warmer. We’re thinking summertime and cool treats. Ice cream is always at the top of the list. It used to be simple. You had a range of flavors to choose from, be it chocolate, vanilla, strawberry or a mix of all these. However, things have changed in the capital today.
Besides affecting the supply of essential commodities in the State, the indefinite strike in Darjeeling Hills and the ongoing unrest along the NH10 has created a shortage of ice cream stocks in the market as well!
Some ice cream shop owners of Gangtok informed SummitTimes, that the supply of packaged ice cream in different flavors has stopped coming in due to which they are not being able to serve customers the flavors of their choice.
“We have to say sorry to them for not being able to cater to their choices. Hence, we have been selling only the machine cone ice cream at a cost of Rs 20 for each cone. We don’t want to disappoint them and would love to watch them return with a smile on their faces,” expressed one of the shop owners.
The shop owner also complained about their business going downhill due to the shortage of ice cream especially at this time of the year.
“We have no idea when fresh stocks will arrive. We have been desperately waiting for a positive consequence,” said another shop owner who operates from MG Marg.
An ice cream lover, Bidisha Rai, expressed her disappointment on not being able to enjoy her favourite ice cream flavors this year.
“I am an ice cream lover. Summer is not only the time when I devour ice creams. Every season is an ice cream season for me. Machine ice cream cones do not satisfy my sweet tooth for ice cream. I hope the market will bounce back with a huge stock of various flavors of ice creams at the earliest,” said Ms Rai.
