TRUCKS RETURN TO BUSINESS OF SUPPLYING SIKKIM
Gangtok, 21 Jul:
There has been an improvement in the flow of trucks carrying goods to Sikkim from Siliguri over the past few days, inform truckers.
Earlier this month, several trucks carrying goods to Sikkim had been targeted at various locations in Siliguri following which there was a sharp drop in the movement of trucks along the highway.
“The number of trucks plying to Sikkim from Siliguri has now increased to 300-400 per day over the past few days. No reports of truck vandalisation or any other incidents have come up lately and this has led to more trucks plying to Sikkim,” informed All Sikkim Truck Drivers Association president, Mingma Sherpa.
Mr Sherpa further added that West Bengal police is extending safe passage to trucks ferrying goods to Sikkim. Police at Siliguri is providing escort to the trucks from Siliguri market areas to Salugara.
“Trucks registered with both Sikkim and West Bengal Governments are transporting food supplies, construction materials and essential commodities to Sikkim now,” adds Mr Sherpa.
