Siliguri, 30 Jul:

Darjeeling born international shooter, Sushil Ghaley has added another feather to his decorated career as he shot his way to a Gold medal at the recently concluded 17th Kumar Surendra Singh Shooting Championship held in New Delhi on Saturday. He had participated in his favorite event - 50 Meters Rifle Prone.

Sushil was representing the Indian Army team.

Sanjeev Rajput (Haryana) and Swapnil Kushale (Railways) won Silver and Bronze medals respectively. The championship was held at Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range.

“I am really happy with my performance in the championship. There is a trial on 07 and 08 Aug and this performance will help me do well. In October the selection for Commonwealth Shooting Championship will be done considering the performance in this event,” said Ghaley.

He added that he needs the blessings of his people to go on and win a berth and then a medal at the Commonwealth Shooting Championship.

Sushil is a seven-time national champion in 50 meters rifle and has around 15 international medals and over 100 national level medals to his name. He has held the national record for three times in his career so far.

A person who had no idea about shooting as a sport while growing up in Darjeeling was introduced to it after joining the 2/1 Gorkha Regiment and now he has become one of the most notable shooters in the country in his category.
