Startup Harbour organizes workshop on GST for local entrepreneurs
Gangtok, 12 Aug:
Sikkim’s entrepreneur’s port, Startup Harbour on 11 Aug organized a workshop on Goods and Service Tax (GST) here at the capital. Hotel New Orchid by Voyage Hospitality in Development Area hosted the session which had Chartered Accountant, Rohit Khandelwal as the resource person of the workshop.
About 15 entrepreneurs from Gangtok attended the session wherein the concept of GST and different tax rates that will apply to several goods and services especially on newly formed startups were explained by Mr Khandelwal.
The Goods and Services Tax (GST), which came into effect from 01 July, requires all e-commerce businesses to register under the new tax regime.
“Even though the new tax has come into effect, many businesses have not prepared themselves for GST. They are unaware of it and this workshop was conducted to make sure those local entrepreneurs were aware about GST,” founder of Startup Harbour and NE Taxi, Rewaj Chettri shared.
“The level of unpreparedness is even greater among small businesses and tiny outfits. Many small entrepreneurs feel they can bypass the GST. That is true, but this exemption comes with its own set of problems. Even if you are a small business, get yourself registered,” he further says.
Startup Harbour also welcomed some new members on the occasion.
Speaking about the session they said, “The energy and support was something else. Great insights and amazing people. Overall a very good session.”
