LACHUNG TO INTRODUCE BAMBOO WATER BOTTLES, BAN PLASTIC BOTTLES

Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Hishey Lachungpa, inaugurated the Leema Community Recreation Centre under Lachung Dzumsa on 12 Aug.
He was accompanied by Zilla Adakshya-North Anguli Lepcha, Upadakshya Nim Tshering Lepcha, District Collector Karma R. Bonpo, Pipons and Chultimpas of Lachung Dzumsa.
Eco-friendly bamboo containers to carry water were also introduced on the occasion.
Lachung has announced plans to ban plastic water bottles from 15 Aug.
The decision to ban plastic bottles was taken by Lachung Dzumsa Boxing Association. The members are in touch with bamboo specialists for the hygienic treatment of bottles and to ensure durability.
“The bottle will not just replace the plastic water bottles but will also provide job opportunities to the unemployed youth of Lachung,” said general secretary of the Lachung Dzumsa Boxing Association.
He further stated that the bamboo water bottle will cost Rs 200 but if the user returns the bottle to the seller, Rs 180 will be refunded and only Rs 20 will be charged.
