Gangtok, 20 Aug: Sikkim Government College, Gyalshing, West Sikkim, today organized a programme to observe the silver jubilee of Nepali Bhasa Manyata Diwas at Zilla Panchayat Bhawan, a press release informs. Yangthang MLA Chandra Maya Subba attended the function as the chief guest while Padmashree BB Muringla was present as the guest of honor. The programme was also attended by the constituency dignitaries along with the students, staff and members of Yangthang Gram Panchayat Unit. The programme featured poetry recitals, debate, essay-writing as well as quiz competitions organized by the college students, along with several cultural presentations. On the occasion, the area MLA and the Padmashree awardee were also felicitated by the college. Ms Subba in her address expressed her admiration for all the people who worked for the constitutional recognition of Nepali language. “Celebrations should not be limited to the observation of this day but sincere efforts to develop Nepali language further should also be part of the celebration,” she added. Mr Muringla on the other hand shared his personal experiences about his contribution towards the development of language and literature in the region. In his speech, he gave the social-political context under which this movement emerged and gave exhaustive historical details related to Bhasa Andolan in India, informs the release.
