JENNIFER LUWAGUN BECOMES VOICE OF ZION

Jennifer Luwagun emerged as the winner of the Voice of Zion, a state-level solo singing competition. In the grand finale of the event here at Sikkim Government College, Tadong auditorium on 06 Sept, Jennifer stood on the first position followed by Bibesh Rai from Namchi in second position and Isaac Berdewa from Singtam in third position.

Out of the five finalists, Jeena Rai of Gangtok finished fourth with James Rai from Mangalbaria in fifth position.

The event was presented by Zion Music Ministries and supported by the United Christian Welfare Society of Sikkim [UCWSS]. The grand finale had Dr Lobzang Lama from Namchi as chief guest. The event had Samuel Lepcha from Darjeeling and Rev Jonah Gurung from Gangtok as judges.

21-year-old Jennifer from Ranipool received a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh along with trophy and certificate. The organisers have presented cash prizes of Rs 50,000 to second, Rs 32,000 to third, Rs 28,000 to fourth and Rs 25,000 to fifth position holders. The five finalists will also be featured in a music and video album of Zion Music Ministries.

st Sikkim. She recently graduated in Zoology from Sikkim Government College, Tadong.

Addressing a press conference here today, Jennifer expressed her happiness on winning the state-level solo song competition. She added that the whole journey of the Voice of Zion has boosted her self-confidence and helped her further hone her talent.

“I would like to express deep gratitude to Zion Music Ministries for providing such a platform to us. I would like to thank my mentor, Santosh Baraily, for guiding me throughout the auditions and the grand finale,” she added.

Jennifer expressed her desire to keep moving forward in the field of singing and mentor upcoming young singers of the State.

Voice of Zion Director, John Bhutia, expressed his gratitude to all churches and well wishers for supporting the event. He also thanked the UCWSS for supporting the event. He mentioned that the main objective of the event was to provide a bigger and better platform to local talents and to encourage young generation towards a productive path.

He further informed that more than 260 contestants participated in auditions held in all four district headquarters. The event had LB Baraily, Santosh Baraily, Marina Rai and Nitin Bagdas as mentors for participants.

Mr Bhutia mentioned that next year, ‘Zion Got Talent’ will also be organised at the regional level which will include solo song, group song and dance competitions for talents from Sikkim and neighbouring hills.
