Facebook helps police trace Nepal runaway's family

Gangtok, 11 Sept:

In an instance of the positive use of the internet and social media, Sikkim Police has managed to trace and contact the parents of a teenaged boy, reported missing from Nepal.

On 09 Sept, plain cloth police personnel found the teen roaming around at Jorethang Bazaar in South Sikkim and on enquiry found out that the boy had fled from home after a minor dispute with his parents.

The minor did not possess any documents of his identity or contact number of his parents. Thereafter, the police 'googled' the contact number of the concerned police station in Nepal and also sent a message to the boy's father on Facebook asking him to contact Jorethang Police Station as soon as possible.

The boy's family then contacted Jorethang PS on the number provided in the message and thanked Jorethang police for finding their child.

The boy has been handed over to a team member of the District Child Protection Unit of Namchi until the arrival of his parents.
