Gangtok, 11 Sept:

Two under trial inmates of Namchi District Prison, South Sikkim who had escaped from the prison on 02 Sept have been caught by the police. The duo had staged a daring escape from the district prison through a tunnel dug under the jail's walls.

A team comprising of Police personnel of Kaluk Police Station and Hee Gaon Outpost arrested Kishan Gurung from Gabring Near Martam, West Sikkim today. The other inmate, Yogesh Bardewa, had been nabbed on 07 Sept at Jarong by a team comprising of Police Personnel from Ravangla Police Station, Special Branch (Ravangla) and Sikkim State Jail, Namchi.

The duo were found missing from the District Prison at 6:40 a.m. on 02 Sept morning when the jail authorities carried out their usual counting of inmates. On enquiry it was learnt that the two had been sent to dispose of garbage and had not returned thereafter.

Yogesh Bardewa (21) of Jarong, South Sikkim, was under judicial custody at Namchi prison from 11 Feb 2017 and Kishan Gurung (26) of Jaldhaka, Darjeeling district was in the prison from 29 Nov 2016. Both were booked under POSCO Act and the case is under trial at the District Session Court Namchi.
