Gangtok, 12 Sept:

A new rest house constructed for ex-army personnel of the country was inaugurated today here at Hee-Gaon under Maneybung-Dentam constituency. Minister cum area MLA, NK Subba, who was present as chief guest on the occasion, inaugurated the two-storied rest house in the presence of ex-army personnel.

Secretary of Rajya Sainik Board cum president of Ex-Servicemen Association of Sikkim, DN Bhutia informed that the rest house has been constructed at a cost of Rs 78 lakh. The rest house will also be a centre that will cater to a number of welfare initiatives for army personnel, he informed.

Skill development training programmes for ex-army personnel and their family members along with other work related to army personnel will be initiated through the rest house in coming days, said Mr Bhutia.

He added that the new rest house will play a pivotal role in ensuring welfare of ex-army personnel. He thanked the ex-army personnel present, Minister NK Subba and local people for their significant contributions in the establishment of the rest house.

Minister, Mr Subba, in his short speech, said that the establishment of rest house is part of sustainable infrastructural development keeping in view the need of rest house for former army personnel. He added that the rest house is truly dedicated to ex-army personnel who have served the people and the nation with utmost dedication.

Mr Subba also assured the construction of a conference hall on the top floor of the rest house.

The event also saw the felicitation of those who have contributed in the construction of the rest house.

The Ex-Servicemen Association of Sikkim felicitated Minister NK Subba for his support in making the rest house project a successful initiative.

The event also had the presence of SSP (West), KD Shangderpa, SDM (Dentam), RB Bhandari, BDO (Dentam), JP Chettri amongst others.
