Priyanka Chopra says her comments were 'misconstrued'

September 15, 2017

 Gangtok, 14 Sept:

After facing backlash on social media for her comment about Sikkim being 'troubled with insurgency', Bollywood and now Hollywood actress, Priyanka Chopra, sent an e-mail to Tourism Minister, Ugen Gyatso Bhutia, today clarifying her 'stance' on 'the situation'.

In the mail, the actress has said that her comment was 'misconstrued' and that she had meant Sikkim was troubled by insurgencies in 'neighbouring countries'.

However, she goes on to add that, "I'm fully aware that Sikkim is an incredible host nation to so many refugees and our film shows exactly that through the children's point of view."

Priyanka has offered an apology if her comments have offended or hurt people's sentiments and also acknowledged the support extended by the state government and the people here.

The mail does not talk about her statements on her soon to release film Pahuna being the first film from Sikkim which many in the State have also objected to.

It may be recalled that this controversy arose after Priyanka's comments on Sikkim in an interview with ET Canada a day ago. Her film Pahuna, shot mostly in Sikkim, debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival.
