Sikkim Indigenous Lepcha Tribal Association [SILTA] is all set to organise a State-level Lepcha singing competition, the Mayal Lyang Lepcha Idol, in the capital.
The organisers have registered 100 contestants for the auditions scheduled to be held on 11 Dec here at YOLO restaurant in Deorali. The top-ten contestants from the audition will again take on each other for the title in the grand finale scheduled to be held on 11 Jan next year at Mayfair Resort.
This was announced by SILTA president, Mayalmit Lepcha, at a press conference held here today.
She informed that 100 talented Lepcha singers from different parts of the State had registered online for the auditions of the event. The audition will have popular Lepcha musicians and singers, Mickma Tshering Lepcha, Ongyal Tshering Lepcha and Samrit Lepcha, as judges.
“The main objective of the event is to provide a platform to promote talented singers hiding in different corners of the State. We also want to encourage young artists to come forward with confidence to express their talent,” Ms Lepcha said.
She further informed that top ten contestants will be groomed for the grand finale. She also shared plans to conduct the event annually from next year.
The event carries cash prizes of Rs 25,000 for the winner, Rs 15,000 for first runner-up and Rs 10,000 for second runner-up.
