Dzongu MLA attends State Level Tribal Fest in Namprikdang

Dzongu, 28 Dec:

The third day of the State Level Tribal Festival/Namsoong celebration at Namprikdang in Dzongu, North Sikkim was attended by Deputy Speaker [Sikkim Legislative Assembly] cum Area MLA, Sonam Gyatso Lepcha as the chief guest.

Mr Lepcha was accompanied by Sikkim Nationalized Transport Department Chairperson, Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, organizing committee chairperson, Nezing Lepcha and Sub Divisional Magistrate [Dzongu], Tshering Dorjee Bhutia.

The chief guest and other dignitaries visited the traditional stalls installed at the venue and appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee.

The chief guest in his address said that the state government is providing every facility to tribals and appealed to the people to grab the opportunities provided by the government. He added that Sikkim is the only state in the country where the safety of various communities is given the topmost priority by the government.

“Our government under the leadership of Pawan Chamling has always worked for the upliftment of the tribal communities,” he said.

Former footballer from Upper Dzongu, Sherap Lepcha was also felicitated by the organizing committee.

A collection of Lepcha poems by Lakthi Lepcha, a Lepcha language teacher of Eklavya Model Residential School, North Sikkim was also released by the chief guest.

The function was also attended by Milk Union Chairperson, Choden Lepcha, Senior Superintendent of Police [North], Karma L Tenzin, Director Tribal Research Institute, KL Lepcha, committee members and other dignitaries.
