The dance troupe from Jorethang Senior Secondary School which represented Sikkim at the Kala Utsav impressed judges enough to secure the third position at the national-level event held at the Regional Institute of Education (RIE) Complex, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh from 03-06 January.
The troupe comprised of eight students accompanied by Antim Biswakarma as the Escort Teacher. They had earned the privilege of representing Sikkim after having stood first at the state-level Kala Utsav competition organised by RMSA, Sikkim, on 28 October 2017, an official press communiqué informs.
Students from all over the country showcased their artistic talent at the national meet in the fields of music, theatre, dance and visual arts on the theme “Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat”.
The third prize carries a cash component of Rs. 2 lakh besides trophies and certificates.
Kala Utsav is an initiative of the Ministry of Human Resource Development Department (MHRD) under the RMSA scheme to promote arts in education by nurturing and showcasing the artistic talent of students at the Secondary stage.
Kala Utsav was started in 2015 and is now being regularly organized every year as a celebration of art forms in the school system.
The event seeks to provide students the opportunity to understand and celebrate cultural diversity at school, district, state and national levels.
The Ministry has from this year initiated the concept of pairing of states to promote national integration and create awareness about the paired state. Sikkim was paired with Delhi and accordingly, Sikkim performed the Bhangra from Delhi.
The awards ceremony was held on 06 January and was attended by Union Minster of State for Human Resource Development, Upendra Kushwaha as the chief guest.
