Sikkim’s Santosh Trophy squad in training in Siliguri

Gangtok, 08 Jan:

Sikkim’s Santosh Trophy squad today played a preparatory friendly match against Kanchenjunga FC at Milan More, Siliguri. The Sikkim team won 5-0.

The Sikkim squad, consisting of 27 players, is currently in Siliguri for a short preparatory camp, informs team manager Arjun Rai. They were earlier training at Paljor Stadium, Gangtok.

Bhaichung Bhutia, the SFA technical advisor, has initiated the camp at Siliguri for the Sikkim team. He is also bearing all expenses for the Siliguri camp, it is learnt.

Bhaichung, along with team coach Suren Chettri and manager Arjun Rai, is with the team in Siliguri.

The objective of the Siliguri camp is to play friendly matches for practice and also to acclimatize for the weather that awaits Sikkim players in Bihar where the Santosh Trophy is scheduled to be held later this month, Mr Rai adds.

He further informed that the Sikkim team would be training tomorrow at the SSB Ground near Siliguri.

“We will play another friendly match on 10 January and then again on 12 Jan before returning to Gangtok,” he said.

The final squad of 20 players to represent Sikkim in the Santosh Trophy will be announced on the squad’s return to Gangtok.
