10 finalists get set for Mayal Lyang Lepcha Idol grand finale
Gangtok, 09 Jan:
Ten finalists are all set to compete in the grand finale of the first Mayal Lyang Lepcha Idol scheduled to be held on 11 Jan at Mayfair Resort in Ranipool, East Sikkim.
Organized by Sikkim Indigenous Lepcha Tribal Association (SILTA) the competition is held to promote singing talents from the Lepcha community.
Six finalists are from Dzongu, one from Mangan, one from Namchi, one from Ranka and one from Kalimpong.
Representing North Sikkim are Tshering Doma Lepcha, Sunom Lepcha, Nim Tshering Lepcha, Bhaichung Lepcha, Norchung Lepcha and Tashi Namgyal Lepcha from Dzongu with Queden Lepcha from Mangan.
The rest of the contestants are Sunong Lepcha from Namchi, South Sikkim, Choden Lepcha from Ranka, East Sikkim and Nima Tshering Lepcha from Lingsey, Kalimpong.
The finalists will have to sing two songs each (one of their own choice and the other assigned to them by the judges) at the grand finale.
The finalists are currently rehearsing for the grand finale at YOLO Lounge Bar in Deorali under the guidance of musician Mickma Tshering Lepcha who is also one the judges for the finals.
There are six judges for the finale which include Padmashree awardee Hildamit Lepcha.
The finale will start from 02 p.m. and will also have Lepcha cultural dances for the audience.
Cash prizes will be given to the top three finalists, informed the organisers.
“My preparations are going on well and I am practicing the song given to me daily,” said one of the finalists, Tshering Doma Lepcha.
All the contestants said the Mayal Lyang Lepcha Idol is a great platform for the singing talents of the community.
“It is a very good initiative by SILTA to provide opportunity and platform to us,” they said.
