Bhutanese footballers foray into Indian clubs

Siliguri, 09 Jan:

Bhutanese footballers are making a foray into India this season. After the success of forward Chencho Gyeltshen, two more Bhutan national team regulars, Jigme Tshering Dorjee and Nima Wangdi, reached Punjab on Tuesday to explore the possibility of playing for the I-League side Minerva Academy Football & Cricket Club.

It is learnt that the boys will be on trials with the club led by young and flamboyant owner, Ranjit Bajaj.

Both the players were playing for Thimphu City FC in Bhutan.

Chencho has been a revelation in the I-League this season after signing for the Chandigarh-based club, scoring two goals and also providing assists.

Minerva has also proved to the other clubs in the country that there is no dearth of talent in the subcontinent and they do not always have to go for African players or those from other countries to supplement their team.
