Grand SDF Day celebration to mark Chamling's 24th year as CM

Gangtok, 12 Feb:

Sikkim Democratic Front is all set to celebrate its 26th Foundation Day on 04 Mar at Mining ground near Rangpo in East Sikkim.

“This year the event is more special as our Chief Minister will set a new record of being the longest serving CM in the country. It is a moment to rejoice and celebrate,” said Tourism Minister, Ugen Gyatso Bhutia, while talking with reporters during a coordination meeting at Mining ground today.

Mr Bhutia informed that around 70-80 thousand people from all across the State are expected to attend the grand celebration.

“It is the love and trust of the people which has given SDF an opportunity to serve people of Sikkim. The event will be grand, one which Sikkim has never witnessed before,” he added.

The Minister further added that other events to celebrate the CM’s commendable feat will be held after April this year.

It may be mentioned here, Chief Minister Pawan Chamling will break the record of former Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu as the longest serving CM of the country. Late Basu was the CM of West Bengal for little more than 23 years from 1977-2000 while Mr Chamling will be entering his 24th year as CM.

The coordination meeting today was attended by all senior party functionaries and workers.

According to sources, MLAs of all the constituencies have been directed to invite people to participate in the Foundation Day event.
