Workshop held on e-waste management for schools

Gangtok, 09 Mar:

A workshop on Karo Sambhav School Programme - Shaping and Enabling Behavioral Change was held here at Forest Department conference hall on Friday. The workshop was organised by Rongjeng Technologies, Guwahati mainly to create awareness on the management and proper disposal of electronic waste [e-waste]. The workshop was attended by teachers from 32 schools from different parts of the State.

During the workshop, teachers were introduced to the curriculum designed for the students by Karo Sambhav consisting of various exercises related to e-waste management which they have to undertake with the students of their respective schools.

Rongjeng Technologies State Coordinator, Miraz Ahmed mentioned that as an executing agency under Karo Sambhav programme, Rongjeng Technologies has the task of acting as a bridge between the various stakeholders such as schools, government departments and consumers and creating awareness on the harmful impacts of e-waste on the environment and the health of the people and also to educate them on the proper means and methods.

State Pollution Control Board Senior Scientist, Gopal Pradhan expressed his concern on the excessive dependency on electronic gadgets and appliances of the present generation and mentioned that it has led to an increase in the amount of e-waste globally. He stressed upon the need for all stakeholders, agencies and general public to work in coordination to address this issue. He also appreciated the initiative of Karo Sambhav and of Rongjeng Technologies.
