A special fire safety drill was held at Raj Bhavan by the Directorate of Fire & Emergency Services, Sikkim Police, today. The Fire safety team was led by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Prakash Rai.
A press release from Raj Bhavan informs that Governor Shriniwas Patil, Commissioner-cum-Secretray to Governor, officers and staff of Raj Bhavan and ITBP Jawans were present on the occasion.
Mr Rai and his team demonstrated various firefighting techniques along with creating awareness on prevention, mitigation and use of various types of fire extinguishers.
He also provided hands-on operation drill to various household staff of Raj Bhavan.
Expressing gratitude to the team, the Governor urged that literature simplifying the firefighting action using various types of extinguishers be printed in local languages for use by common people wherever such extinguishers are installed.
He also directed the team to train Raj Bhavan staff in batches of five each so that all are aware of the system and usage during emergency hours.
The Governor also underlined the need to create awareness about the firefighting facilities available in Raj Bhavan compound and public buildings elsewhere along with knowledge about various types of fires and the techniques to douse them.
