The Department of Economics of Rhenock Government College, East Sikkim, organised a study tour for the 5th semester students of B.A, B.Sc [Economics] Honours at the production unit of Sikkim Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited in Tadong today. Earlier this year, the team had also visited Anand Milk Union Limited [AMUL] and others dairy cooperatives in Anand and in others district of Gujarat in the month of Jan, a press release informs.
Sponsored by Rashtriya Uchchattar Siksha Abhiyan [RUSA] and Human Resource Development Department, Government of Sikkim, the tour was conducted with an objective to provide avenues for self employment in dairy related activities/business and to enhance knowledge and skill of the participants in supply chain and dairy marketing, importance of cooperative dairy farming, breeding, feeds and production of milk and its processed produces.
Accompanied by faculty members of the Economics Department, Rhenock College, Santosh Basnett and Pranesh Pandey, the students gathered information regarding various facets of Amul like cooperative dairy farming, usage of advanced technologies, production and its marketing by acquiring firsthand knowledge.
The organizing team, on behalf of the college, has expressed gratitude to Chairperson, National Cooperative Dairy Federation of India Limited [NCDFI], Anand, Gujarat, Mangaljit Rai, for his guidance, support and directions.
The team also extended gratitude to the officials of NCDFI, National Dairy Development Board [NDDB], Sikkim Cooperatives Milk Producers’ Union Ltd and all village and district level dairy cooperatives for their support and cooperation. They also thanked the Principal of Rhenock Government College for motivating and supporting their tour.
