Forest guest house inaugurated at Hiley
Geyzing, 22 Mar:
Forest Minister Tshering Wangdi Lepcha inaugurated a forest guest house at Hiley under Baresey Rhododendran Sanctuary of Daramdin constituency in West Sikkim today.
An initiative of State Government, the guest house has been constructed near the walkway that leads to the famous Barsey Rhododendran Sanctuary.
The Forest Minister, who attended the function as the chief guest, in his brief address, welcomed the establishment of the guest house as a ‘much-needed venture considering the ever-growing popularity of Barsey Rhododendran Sanctuary in the tourism map of West Sikkim’.
He said that the new guest house should be established as a centre for improvement of tourism sector in surrounding areas.
The new bungalow has three VIP suites along with a lounge area, a dining hall and a fully functional kitchen.
Construction work had officially commenced on 16 July, 2016 after demolishing the old structure and was completed on 15 Mar, 2018.
Mr Lepcha also stated that work is currently underway for another forest bungalow at Yuksom and stressed that such establishments were built for the benefit of unemployed local residents.
The new forest bungalow can be occupied not only by Forest Department officials but also tourists.
The inaugural event of the guest house was also attended by Area MLA, D.N Sherpa along with Principal Chief Conservator, C.S Rao, Additional Director (Forest), Udai Gurung and District Forest Officer (West), Nisha Subba and others.
