Soumyajit Ghosh dropped from national team for CWG

Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) has decided to drop Arjuna awardee paddler from Siliguri, Soumyajit Ghosh from the national team for the upcoming Commonwealth Games due to molestation and rape charges filed against him.

Ghosh was booked on Thursday for allegedly raping a teenager. The victim has accused Soumyajit of raping her at her residence in April 2015 on the pretext of marriage. However, he has denied the allegation and said that he will approach the case legally.

Ghosh has been booked on charges of rape (Indian Penal Code's Section 376), cheating (IPC 417), causing miscarriage without woman's consent (IPC 313) and under sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The table tennis champion was training in Germany for the Commonwealth Games to be held in the Gold Coast from 04 to 15 Apr later this year.
