Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Maneka S Gandhi called on Governor ShriniwasPatil at Raj Bhavan on her arrival at Gangtok today, a press release informs.
Ms Gandhi was received at Raj Bhavan by First Lady RajanideviPatil.
This was a courtesy call by the Union Minister who is on a three-day visit to Sikkim.
In a brief meeting with the Minister, the Governor provided a briefinsight over the history of Raj Bhavan, Sikkim. He also gave a brief account of the visits of Former Prime Ministers, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and IndiraGandhi to Sikkim.
The release reads that Ms Gandhipraised the beauty andserenity of Sikkim and urged the Governor to explore the option of producing and exporting orchids as a profitable business venture for the development of State.
She said that she wants to see Sikkim take the lead as a major producer and exporter of orchids besides organic farming, reads the release.
