11 leave for free cleft lip repair surgery
Gangtok, 27 Mar:
Eleven people from Sikkim in need of cleft lip corrective surgery have left for Saraswat Hospital in Agra to undergo the procedure under an initiative taken up by the Sikkim Viklang Sahayata Samity [SVSS], an NGO working for rehabilitation of differently-abled persons.
“The cleft lip repair will be performed by Dr Satya Saraswat, a well-known plastic and cosmetic surgeon. He doesn’t charge any fee. Additionally, he provides free food and accommodation for the people going from Sikkim,” informs the founder of SVSS, Droupadi Ghimirey.
It may be mentioned here, Dr Saraswat has repaired cleft lips of more than 500 people from Sikkim till date. The travel and medicine expenses are borne by Smile Train of India.
