Reshmi Chettri returns after refereeing at Sanix Cup Tourney

Gangtok, 27 Mar:

Sikkim Football Association’s Reshmi Chettri returned from Fukuoka, Japan, on 25 March after conducting a 10-day long Sanix Cup International Youth Soccer Tournament 2018 organised by the Asian Football Confederation.

An SFA press release informs that 16 teams had participated in the tournament with 12 teams from different parts of Japan and one team each from Malaysia, Korea, Russia and Taipei.

Asian Football Confederation had deputed 14 referees from different countries, four women and 10 men. Out of four women, two were from India, Sikkim’s Reshmi and West Bengal’s Kusum Mandi.

Besides the conduction of the tournament, the referees also underwent classes on “Law of the Game” conducted by FIFA expert trainers.

SFA had organized a welcome ceremony today at Gangtok during which Reshmi was felicitated for her achievements in the field of refereeing nationally and internationally.

Speaking on the occasion, SFA president, Menla Ethenpa, lauded her role and congratulated her for gaining so many laurels at this early age.

He mentioned that SFA would like to see her in FIFA Referee Panel which is why he advised her to work with more dedication to achieve the same.

Head of Referees, Chamchuk Lama, also informed that he is working hard to produce more referees from Sikkim and expressed hope for Reshmi to emerge as an idol for other new referees to follow.

Reshmi expressed gratitude to SFA and SFA Referee’s Board for giving her the opportunity and exposure and vowed to work harder in days to come to achieve more laurels of the State of Sikkim.
