Gram Sabha on Organic Farming held in Nandugaon

Jorethang, 29 Mar (IPR):

A daylong Gram Sabha with the theme ‘State Organic Farming Mission and other developmental issues’ organised by Poklok Denchung Gram Panchayat Unit in coordination with State Institute for Rural Development [SIRD] and Panchayati Raj, Rural Management and Development Department was held at Nandugaon, South Sikkim, today.

Sikkim Legislative Assembly Speaker cum Area MLA, KN Rai attended the event as the chief guest accompanied by Secretary [Horticulture and Cash Crop Development Department] cum Mission Chief (State Organic Mission), Khorlo Bhutia.

Mr Rai, in his address, emphasized the role of Gram Sabha and said that it determines the success and failure of Panchayati Raj system, which he said depends on how powerful and effective the Gram Sabha is to fulfill the desires and aspirations of the people.

Terming Gram Sabha as village democracy at its best, Mr Rai explained how Gram Sabha plays an important role in providing government benefits.

The program also saw the presentation of budget and annual plan for the year 2018-2019, presentation of ward wise proposal for developmental activities and GPU policy followed by an open discussion between the officials from various line departments and the public of Poklok Denchung GPU.

The sabha was also attended by Divisional Magistrate [Jorethang], BC Rai, Block Development Officer [Jorethang], Prem K Rai, Panchayat President, Gyalpo Lepcha alongside officials of line departments, school heads and panchayats and public of Poklok Denchung GPU.
