Rainfall in East and South Sikkim exceeds normal levels

Rain and hail have been causing havoc in the State for the past few weeks and data from the Meteorological Department show that rainfall in East and South districts of Sikkim have been the heaviest.
Last week, East district received 174% more rainfall than normal while South district too received above normal rainfall according to the Met Department.
While the normal rainfall level for East Sikkim during this season is 17.6 mm, it received 37.7 mm rainfall between 21-28 March. For South, the normal rainfall level is 13.0 mm but the district received 23.7 mm of rainfall [82% above normal].
On the other hand, West and North districts received less than normal levels of rainfall. West received only 14.5 mm as against 45.4 mm normal rainfall level while North received 13.2 mm rainfall, normal level being 45.4 mm.
