Sanitary napkin vending machine and incinerator installed at Tadong College

Gangtok, 29 Mar:

Inner Wheel Club [IWC] of Gangtok has installed one sanitary napkin vending machine and one incinerator machine here at Sikkim Government College in Tadong. The facilities were inaugurated by Upper Tadong MLA, Timothy William Basnet, at the college premises this morning. The machines have been donated by Rotarians, Pramod Dalima and Jeewan Dabriwal.

The handing over ceremony of the machines was attended by IWC district chairperson, Mira Oberoi, IWC Gangtok president, Suman Oberoi, and SGC Tadong Principal, Dr Beena Pradhan, along with other members of the club, college lecturers and students.

On behalf of the constituency, the Area MLA expressed gratitude to the IWC Gangtok for taking up such a noble initiative for the health and hygiene of girl students. He expressed his hope that the club will continue with its initiatives especially in schools in rural parts of the State.

Mr Basnet expressed that this initiative of the club is also in line with the vision of the Chief Minister to keep Sikkim clean and healthy. He also thanked donors for their support in this initiative.

Principal, Dr Pradhan, thanked the IWC for providing the sanitary napkin vending machine and an incinerator at the college. She stated that sanitary napkin vending machine is not only beneficial for girl students but also for women teaching and non-teaching staff of the college. Stating that this facility will also help maintain hygiene and sanitation at the college premises, she added that other organisations should also come forward with such initiatives to support the college.

IWC chairperson spoke about the IWC and its activities and initiatives for the welfare of the society. She mentioned that menstruation health and welfare of girl child has always been a thrust area of the club. She expressed her hope that the college will make good use of the machine.
