Permission for Karmapa visit due to herculean efforts of CM: SDF
Gangtok, 30 Mar:
After Sikkim Krantikari Morcha MLA, Sonam Lama, claimed on Thursday that the Centre has granted permission for the 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje to visit Sikkim, the ruling party, Sikkim Democratic Front today also said that the Centre has approved the Karmapa's visit to the State.
In a press release, SDF has said that the five-member Cabinet Committee on Security chaired by the Prime Minister and comprising of other members, Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj and Nirmala Sitharaman, granted the permission on 28 Mar.
The release issued by SDF vice-president [press & publicity], Dawcho Lepcha, mentions that the Home Ministry forwarded the matter of the 17th Karmapa’s visit to Sikkim to the Cabinet Committee on Security on 29 Nov last year.
The news has brought happiness in the Sikkimese society and this has been possible due to the sincere and herculean efforts of the SDF government and Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, the release adds.
The CM had been placing the demand to allow the Karmapa to Sikkim to the Centre and the Prime Minister on his every visit to Delhi and also during the PM’s visit to Sikkim, the party has said.
