International Panaacea Limited, a service provider agency under the Sikkim Organic Mission, organized a Gram Panchayat Unit level training programmefor famers on International Certification Service [ICS], organic certification and organic vegetable production at Padamchey, East Sikkim, a press release informs.
Horticulture Inspector, Srijana Gurung,Panchayat President, Saran Kumar Bhandari andIPL assistant project coordinator, Pema T. Tamang were the resource persons of the event.
Resource personMr Tamang informed the farmers about ICS documentation and organic certification processes.
He urged the farmers to take advantage of the organic movement and establish strong business in the field. He also emphasized the farmers to help the government spread the message of organic farming throughout the State.
The Horticulture Inspector delved on various schemes under Horticulture Department and emphasized the present market value of leafy and leguminous vegetables.
She focused on crop rotation technique and urged the farmers to grow different crops in different seasons depending on weather and water availability.
IPL Block in-charge, Pushpa Lal Dahal informed the farmers about documents necessary while applying for organic certificates.
Panchayat President Saran Kumar Bhandari urged the gathered farmers to follow the policy and methods of organic farming practices.
He thanked the State Government for supporting the farmers and the organizers for conducting the event.
