Chalamthang residents conduct cleanliness drive, seek tourism prospects

Residents of Chalamthang ward in South Sikkim today organized a cleanliness drive under ‘Chalamthang: Cleanest Organic Village Campaign’, an initiative of the ward panchayat and the residents.

The drive began from Upper Chalamthang Junior School and culminated at Rekep Primary School.

The drive,led by ward panchayatRenuka Sharma,was participated in by villagers, youths, panchayats, teachers, Self Help Groups and students of the area.

The cleanliness drive was supported by Managing Director [Temi Tea Estate], Mrinalini Srivastava.

The Ward Panchayatinformed that the initiative aims to make Chalamthang a tourist spot by making it the cleanest organic village of the State.

She also announced the ward administration’s plans to introduce herbal organic medicine treatment and spa facility in the area to attract tourists.

MD [Temi Tea Estate], Ms Srivastava, applauded the initiative and expressed her happiness in the success of the drive.

20 dokos were donated today by one of the retired teachers of Chalamthang Junior High School during the drive.
