Organic van caught with non-organic produce an "embarrassment": SKM

Referring to today's incident wherein a SIMFED vehicle was allegedly found loaded with non-organic vegetables, Sikkim Krantikari Morcha has said that the incident is an embarrassment to the State.
In a press release, the party has said, “The government restricted the sale of non-organic vegetables for hawkers but an enterprise of Sikkim government has been selling the same vegetables by calling it organic.”
The party has clarified that it is not against the State’s organic mission but is protesting against the manner in which the government in implementing it.
“Many lands in villages are barren at present and farmers do not have proper training and inputs for organic farming. Before banning vegetables from outside, the state government should first ensure enough production of the same for the people of Sikkim,” the release adds.
The release further informs that SKM spokesperson, Jacob Khaling, treasurer, Keshu Agarwal, and business community convener, Imtiyaz, visited SIMFED outlet at Laal Bazaar this morning and enquired about the matter.
The party has warned the state government to stop playing with the sentiments of people by selling vegetables from Siliguri as organic vegetables.
