Training on ICS and Organic Certification at Riwa Machong

International Panaacea Limited [IPL], a service provider agency under the Sikkim Organic Mission, Government of Sikkim, organized a Gram Panchayat Unit level programme on Internal Control System [ICS] and Organic Certification of organic vegetable production at Riwa Machong in Pakyong, East Sikkim, on 03 Apr, a press release informs.
Zilla Panchayat, Sita Rai, along with Panchayat members and farmers of Riwa Machong attended the programme.
Resource person for the event informed about seed treatment and sowing methods for seasonal vegetables and crops.
Block In-Charge, IPL, Ramesh Sharma, highlighted the standard of Organic Certification and that Aadhaar Card Number and Bank Account of each farmer is mandatory for record.
He also briefed about the standard of National Programme for Organic Production [NPOP] and National Organic Programme [NOP] technical standards.
The Zilla Panchayat briefed about the initiatives taken by the state government for providing better facilities for marketing of locally produced vegetables, crop, flower and fruits. She also urged the farmers to grow more vegetables and fruits which can be sold in the local market.
The Panchayat president, while speaking on production of vegetables and other crops, said, “Now everywhere green and fresh vegetables are in high demand. Farmers should come forward to grow vegetables on a large scale. Cultivable land should be properly used by sowing different crops in every season.”
He further urged the participants to follow the policy and methods of organic farming practices in the villages.
