Final rites of Khenpo Karma Topden of Phodong Monastery on 06 Apr

Phodong Monastery has announced that the final rites of Late ‘Lobela’ Khenpo Karma Topden will be conducted on 06 Apr at the monastery.

The Khenpo had passed away on 12 Mar at the age of 93 at his residence in Phodong Monastery, North Sikkim. After keeping the body at his home for three days, the lamas of Phodong Monastery had moved the body to Phodong Monastery for devotees to visit and offer their last respects.

It was informed by the monastery officials that the final rites of the Tibetan Dharma Guru is scheduled to be held on 06 Apr at the monastery with devotees, lamas, nuns and well-wishers from all over the country slated to visit the funeral.

Khenpo Karma Topden was born in 1925 at Kham Nangchen in Tibet. When he was 16 years old he traveled to various holy places in India during which he met the monks of Phodong Monastery at Bodh Gaya and decided to visit Sikkim.

Khenpo Karma Topden was the first Tibetan teacher of Phodong School and the first Dharma Guru of Phodong Monastery.

It was under his supervision that the present Phodong Monastery was consecrated in 1975.

He had studied under Dodrupchen Rinpoche, Dudjom Rinpoche and Chatral Sangye Dorjee Rinpoche. He was a Guru with profound knowledge of Buddhism.
