GPU level training on Organic Certification at Tintek BAC

International Panaacea Limited [IPL], a service-provider agency under the Sikkim Organic Mission, organized a Gram Panchayat Unit level training on Internal Control Systems [ICS] for Organic Certification and organic vegetable production on 07 Apr at Tintek Block Administrative Center in East Pendam, a press release informs.

Block Development Officer [Tintek], Uttam Chettri attended the programme as chief guest accompanied by Agriculture Inspector [Food Supplies and Agriculture Development Department], Janny Basnet, Horticulture Inspector [Horticulture and Cash Crops Development Department], Didup Bhutia, panchayat members, Village Level Worker, IPL field functionaries and farmers of the area.

Agriculture Inspector, Ms Basnet, informed about the different types of schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Krishi Vikas Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sichai Yojana and Rashtriya Krishi Vikash Yojana. She also emphasized on Mission Organic Value Chain Development [MOVCD] and Crop Insurance for the farmers’ community.

She further talked about the present market value of leafy and leguminous vegetable and educated farmers on crop rotation, land and manure preparation and organic seeds and seed treatment for different crops.

IPL block in-charge, Tashi Bhutia mentioned about the standard of Organic Certification and mandates for ICS such as Aadhaar Card Number and Bank Account of each farmer to be recorded in the documentation. He also briefed the gathering about National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) and National Organic Program (NOP).

Horticulture Inspector, Didup Bhutia explained about the schemes under Horticulture & Cash Crop Development, Government of Sikkim. He further urged the participants to follow the policy and methods of organic farming practices in the villages.
