Mevedir organized daylong Gram Panchayat Unit level training on organic farming for the farmers of Siktam Tikpur GPU in West Sikkim on 07 Apr with Horticulture Inspector cum Mission Officer, Danuri Sherpa, Ward Panchayats, Tara Sunam & Om Nath Chettri, and Mevedir master trainers, Chuten Sherpa, Dhan Maya Subba & Phurba Namgyal Sherpa, as resource persons, a press release informs.
The first session was conducted by Mevedir master trainer, Ms Subba, who outlined the objectives of the training programme and emphasized on locally available plants and herbs with microbial resources which could be used in preparing formulations of bio fertilizers like fermented plant extract as a good pest repellent.
Another Mevedir trainer, Mr Sherpa, in the next session informed the farmers about the important documents which have to be maintained in Internal Control System in Organic Certification. He further highlighted about Mission Organic Value Chain Development [MOVCD] programme which has been implemented in their GPU. He also briefed about the Tracenet identity number which is very important for farmers in order to get benefits from the Department of HCCDD and FS&ADD.
In the concluding session, HI cum Mission Officer, Mr Sherpa, explained the importance of organic farming and its benefits to human health while Ward Panchayat, Ms Sunam, urged all farmers to adopt homemade remedies for better results in their farming culture.
