GAC commends SKM for raising Parliament Bill on LT seat issue demand with Union Home Minister

Gangtok, 09 Apr:

The Gorkha Apex Committee has extended gratitude towards Sikkim Krantikari Morcha for placing a demand with the Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh, seeking the tabling of a Bill in Parliament for Limboo-Tamang seat reservation.

A press release issued by GAC chief convener, Passang Sherpa, says, “GAC is pursuing the demand for the Parliament Bill for LT seat reservation in the State Assembly of Sikkim for a long time. We have time and again reminded the State and Central governments, political parties and organisations about Parliament Bill which is the only solution for the LT seat issue. The responsible demand placed by SKM to the Home Minister is a positive step towards achieving the rights of LT community in Sikkim.

Therefore, the ruling SDF, Sikkim unit of Bharatiya Janta Party, other national and regional parties, organisations [especially from LT community] should unitedly pursue the demand for a Parliament Bill on LT seat reservation at the earliest, the release adds.

The introduction of the Bill in the Parliament is the only way out for LT as well as left out majority community to achieve their constitutional rights as enshrined under Article 371F, GAC argues.
