Karmapa claimant says Ogyen Trinley Dorje should not be allowed into Sikkim

Gangtok, 09 Apr:

17th Gyalwang Karmapa claimant, Dawa Sangpo Dorjee has asserted today that Ogyen Trinley Dorje should not be allowed to visit Sikkim. He claimed that Ogyen Trinley Dorje will face a strong protest in the State with black flags and bands if he visits Sikkim.

Addressing a press conference here today, Dawa Sangpo stated that pressurizing the Centre to permit Ogyen Trinley Dorje to visit Sikkim is akin to blackmail. He further alleged that it is a 'crime' against the poorer Buddhist community by the elite Buddhist circle.

He reiterated that a scientific test, divine miracle test and traditional test should be done to identify the reincarnation of the 17th Karmapa.

On the same, he said, “Instead of accepting the challenge of authentication test, Ogyen Trinley Dorje honestly said that he was not born as Karmapa but due to great political pressure he is compelled to hold the title according to a Youtube statement made by him on 18 Feb 2017. Similarly, Thaye Thinley Dorjee has openly said that he has abandoned monkhood and accepted worldly life.”

“Being a Sikkimese, I have not been allowed to perform prayers at Rumtek Monastery yet. How could Ogyen Trinley Dorje be allowed to visit Sikkim? We don’t have money but we just have the truth,” he added.

Dawa Sangpo Dorjee also accused Sangha MLA Sonam Lama of misguiding and deceiving monks of the State.

Sikkim Karmapa Committee president, Wangdi Tshering Lama, alleged that a high level lobby and even Ecclesiastical Affairs Department has been misguiding and pressurizing monks on this issue. He stated that the government should not be one sided but needs to listen to both sides to take the right decision on this issue.

“If required we will make another attempt to enter Rumtek in near future,” he said.

It is informed that the first attempt was made on 01 Jan in 1998 and a second one on 09 Dec 2002.
