National conference on Toxicology at SMIMS

Two-day annual National Conference of Indian Society of Toxicology, “TOXOCON-12”, organized by Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences [SMIMS] in collaboration with STNM Hospital, concluded on 07 April at SMIMS in Gangtok, an SMU press release informs.
Registrar, SMU, Dr Karma Sonam Sherpa, presided over the valedictory function in the presence of Sub Divisional Police Officer, East, Bishal Rai, as guest of honor.
Superintendent of Police, South Sikkim, Dr Siva Prasad Yellasiri, eminent toxicologist, Dr VV Pillay, Professor, Department of Paediatrics [SMIMS], Dr Sudip Dutta, and caretaker of Freedom Facility rehabilitation centre, KC Nima, joined the panel discussion as experts and stressed on holistic approach in curbing menace of drug abuse.
The ISTOLS workshop on handling toxicological emergencies was also conducted successfully at Central Referral Hospital, Gangtok, in the presence of Medical Superintendent, CRH, Dr Gautam Dey, and Medico-legal Consultant, STNM Hospital, Dr OT Lepcha.
Emergency physicians and staff nurses from CRH, STNM Hospital and Peripheral Hospitals including other national and international delegates were given hands on modular training by national and international resource persons, the release adds.
